  Bareboat Charter-In Registration
 

A vessel can be bareboat chartered into the Kiribati Ship Registry and fly the Kiribati flag, which it will then have the full privileges of a Kiribati vessel and comply fully with rules and regulations as stipulated in the Kiribati Merchant Shipping Act.

Bareboat Charter-In Registration is valid for 2 years or the duration of the bareboat charter agreement whichever is earlier. This may be extended upon application.

Provisional Bareboat Charter-in Registration

Documents To be Submitted:

  • Application Form K3
  • Bareboat Charter Agreement
  • Letter of Consent from underlying Registry allowing the vessel to suspend its registry
  • Written Consent of the Registered Owner as stipulated in the underlying Registry
  • Written Consent of Registered Mortgagee(s) if applicable
  • Accounting Authority Appointment Letter
Certificates To be Submitted:
  • Existing Certificate of Registry
  • Existing International Tonnage Certificate
  • Existing SOLAS Certificates where applicable
  • Existing MARPOL Certificates where applicable
  • Existing Load Line Certificate
  • Proof of 3rd party liability insurance coverage
The following certificates will be issued upon confirmation that application is in order and receipt of payment:
  • Provisional Certificate of Registry (Bareboat Charter)
  • Provisional Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (if required)
  • Provisional Ship Station Licence (if required)
  • Carving & Marking Note
The Provisional registration is valid for 6 months and may be extended upon application.

Permanent Bareboat Charter-in Registration

Original Documents To Be Submitted:
  • Application Form K3
  • Certified Copy of Bareboat Charter Agreement
  • Letter of Consent from underlying Registry allowing the vessel to suspend its registry
  • Written Consent of the Registered Owner as stipulated in the underlying Registry
  • Written Consent of Registered Mortgagee(s) if applicable
Original Certificates To Be Submitted:
  • Bill of Sale (BOS) or Builder's Certificate (for new vessels) - will be returned to the owner after sighting by the Registrar
  • Deletion Certificate from the previous registry (if applicable)
A copy of the following Certificates issued by the authorized classification societies should be submitted as well:
  • Full term International Tonnage Certificate
  • SOLAS Certificates where applicable
  • MARPOL Certificates where applicable
  • International Load Line Certificate
  • Carving & Marking Note (duly endorsed)
The Registry will issue the following certificates after confirming that all of the above is in order:
  • Permanent Certificate of Registry
  • Permanent Minimum Safe Manning Certificate (if required)
  • Permanent Ship Station Licence (if required)
